The Southern US is the largest paper producing region in the world, and 50% of all landfill waste is paper or wood. More than half of all the paper produced in the US was used in paper packaging!!
Where does all that paper packaging come from?
Unfortunately, a large portion of this needless waste is coming from one of the most unique places on Earth-Southern forests. There are dozens of large paper mills producing paper packaging across the South. According to the US Forest Service, millions of acres of Southern forests are being clearcut every single year, making the Southern US the largest paper producing region in the world!
