Sign on to Help Green the Music Industry

Right now, we are just collecting signautres from people IN the music inudustry, in a band, on a label, an independent musician, a manager or DJ, etc. This is not a petition, just a sign on to say "I want to see more sustainable packaging!"

Dear Music Industry Leader,

Excessive and unsustainable packaging is a scratch on the music industry's record. Music makes the world better, unsustainable packaging doesn't.

The music industry has changed the face of America over the last 50 years and now is the time to take leadership on protecting our country's environment as well. Just as we have had a profound effect on the lives of people of all generations, let's work together to protect the planet for future generations of music lovers.

Southern forests which help ease the impact of global warming and define the region that has brought us everything from Hank Williams to Outkast are being destroyed to make excessive packaging for the music industry. The majestic forests of the South store carbon helping to fight off the climate crisis, yet over five-million acres of forests in this region are cut every year, mostly for paper production.

Together in an industry known for its innovation we can develop simple and creative solutions to solve the packaging problem. Industry leaders like Warner Music Group have already announced initiatives to overhaul their packaging, we the undersigned believe that we can meet or beat Warner's commitment by:

*Eliminating paper packaging products originating from endangered forests;

*Working with packaging suppliers to improve forest management practices through increased use of fiber from more sustainably managed sources in paper and packaging products;

*Maximizing recovery of packaging waste generated;

*Reducing overall packaging; and

*Maximizing use of 100% recycled boxboard, a readily available alternative.

Thank you for supporting us as artists and helping make the world a better place!

Signed,

What is the greatest thing about greening the music industry? Your impact is multiplied by all your fans, all the great press you will get, and all of your friends. As a musician, the impact you will have goes above and beyond what any one person can do.

Working together with non-profits like Dogwood Alliance and other bands and labels to green the industry and reduce the overall amount of packaging they use, we can transform the packaging problem, ensure the protection of endangered forests and slow global climate change.
